Previously, dashing Ovid Grey, rogue, criminal, and ex-milliner, was ordered by Alyss Heart to secretly locate and retrieve a Heart Crystal shard that had been hidden on Earth. Now, the queen needs him to to stop a devious plot hatched by the treacherous fish people of Unterlan. As the hierarchy in Wonderland continues to shift following the creation of Everqueen, Alyss makes the controversial decision to use technology created during the tyrannical reign of her wicked Aunt Redd to evolve the House of Cards into a new fighting force. Dealing himself a hand of specialists just for this mission, Ovid tries to stack the deck in his favor, sneaking behind enemy lines to hopefully stop Unterlan before its too late.
